Progress in Ghana

Following the success of our wastewater treatment project we built in Kumasi, plus of the ongoing successful professional and technical Ghanaian-Hungarian cooperation and fruitful dialogue, the Pureco-Unit Consortium has launched two more projects in Ghana in Takoradi and Tamale.

In these settlements, too, untreated wastewater, which is discharged untreated into surface waters and into the environment, causes many environmental and hygiene problems.

In Takoradi and Tamale, the Pureco-Unit Consortium, as the Hungarian main contractor, applies the unique Septopure technology, already proven in Kumasi, and designs and implements it in the framework of the project.

In these settlements, there is no sewerage network, 100% liquid waste is required to be treated at the wastewater treatment plant.

With Septopure technology, the Consortium is taking the local needs into consideration and building tailor-made, sustainable wastewater treatment plants. The solution we provide is adapted to the needs of the local people of Takoradi and Tamale.

With the collection of the liquid waste generated in the areas and its treatment to be discharged into surface water without causing any harm, or to be reused the treated water such as process or irrigation water, is making our projects sustainable in Takoradi and Tamale as well.

The technology solution includes not only the development itself but also professional training programmes focused on retaining the local workforce and preparing them to operate the designed and built systems. To ensure the successful operation of the constructed treatment plants, and thus their long-term sustainability, a series of training programmes have been organised for Ghanaian professionals with the same method we used in Kumasi.

The construction of the projects financed by the Hungarian EXIM Bank's buyer credit facility is progressing well, no untreated wastewater is expected to be discharged into the environment in either Takoradi or Tamale by 2023.
