Our contribution to the Sustainability Week
Now in its 7th year, the Sustainability Week, which reaches nearly 350,000 students every year, was organised under the patronage of János Áder, resigning President of Hungary. The programme is organised by the Ministry of Human Resources.
The aim of the events is to take the message of sustainability from schools to students and, through students, to families and society as a whole.
Each year, Sustainability Week focuses on 3+1 themes from the complex world of sustainability. This year, water, health, responsible consumption and waste have been developed as permanent themes, presenting the issues and interrelationships of environmental-economic social sustainability.
During the week, the organisers provided an opportunity for sustainability professionals (volunteers) to stand in front of children and reinforce the Week's message with their own examples and ideas.
Mr. Károly Kovács, President of the Hungarian Water and Wastewater Technology Association, Mr. Bálint Horváth, Managing Director of Pureco Ltd. and Secretary-General of the Hungarian Water Partnership, gave presentations at three primary schools in Budaörs and in Budapest.
During the presentations, our speakers tried to show the children the value of water, the tasks of the water profession in the field of water and wastewater treatment, and to give further guidance on water awareness through real-life examples.
The programme also provided an opportunity for the organisations supporting the thematic Week to host school children at external visitor sites. Our partner company Puraset Ltd. was an active participant in the programme and hosted a group of schoolchildren at its site in Jászfényszaru, where the students were given an insight into the daily work of water treatment.
We hope that our presentations have brought value to the children and will help to shape their mindset in the years to come.
